Free Online Weight Management Course - Conclusion

Weight management can seem daunting at first, but don’t give up hope that you can reach your goals! Healthful weight loss and maintenance has been possible for thousands of Americans.

The National Weight Control Registry (NWCR) provides some of the most promising information about weight management strategies that have been successful. The NWCR is a database of over 2700 adults who have lost at least 10% of their initial body weight, and they have maintained the loss for at least a year. Studies of NWCR participants reveal several common practices.

  • Controlling calories – Participants follow a reduced calorie diet.
  • Reducing fat – Over 75% of participants consume fat within the USDA recommended range.
  • High physical activity – NWCR participants are active! All expend more than 2300 calories per week through exercise.
